The Scenic Route

When did I veer?
And Who knows why.
I twisted and turned,
myself to comply.

Somewhere I got lost
in the journey through,
Loving and holding on
during rough spots too.

Seemed most appealing
Well, it did at the time.
Distracting panorama
pulling me cross the line.

Forgetting my purpose
Not feeding my soul,
Becoming whoever,
Moving with no goal.

But to get through the day,
Just hoping to stay,
Ahead of the of the game,
I had learned to play.

Looking for rainbows
And signs of my life.
I couldn't see me,
Just somebody's wife.

Now that my journey
Is winding down,
I am seeing the sadness,
And joy that I found,

There are no regrets
Glad for the ride,
It's been taking me here,
Where I now reside.

With the me I remember,
When I first started out,
before I made the choice
to take the scenic route.
